We take pride in the presentation and preparation of our charter yachts. We want you to have a great time on the yachts and come back to charter with Sailaway again. We hope too that when you return home, you'll want to share the stories of your cruise and to recommend Sailaway to your friends!
We offer a choice of 8 charter yachts from 35 to 46 ft, each of them available for for hire on a bareboat or skippered charter basis.
All of these yachts are available for skippered or bareboat charter on the west coast of Scotland, for which we ask charterers to confirm they have appropriate qualifications and/or experience. For bareboat yacht charter on our yachts of up to 40ft in the Clyde area - unless you can demonstrate reasonable previous experience/mileage in a similarly sized yacht - we ask that the charter party on each yacht should between them hold at least one RYA day skipper ticket and a VHF operators licence. For the larger yachts, RYA Coastal skipper or equivalent sailing experience, is normally required.
To venture beyond the Clyde - unless you can demonstrate considerable previous experience – we ask that the charter party on each yacht should between them hold at least one RYA coastal skipper or yachtmaster ticket, and a VHF operators licence.
If you have neither qualifications nor experience but would still like to enjoy our beautiful cruising area then that's not a problem - we will be happy to arrange skippered charter for any of these yachts!
For those who may already have their day skipper and/or other certificates but are perhaps a little daunted at the prospect of heading out on their first bareboat yacht charter, we will if you ask us when you book be happy to organise a skipper for say the first day or two of your holiday.
As another option, we are pleased to offer our unique Clyde Flotilla charter, which combines the fun of bareboat charter with the added sociability and comfort of cruising in company with other yachts. Unique, because we think Sailaway may be the only yacht charter company offering flotilla charter sailing on the west coast of Scotland.
However you do it - this is a great place to sail! We will be happy to advise you on the local cruising area and on harbours and anchorages to visit - some suggested routes are in the plan your cruise section.
Largs has great transport links, is easy to get to by road and has great local facilities.
What do our customers say?
"Everything went well - really really nice spacious big yacht... the boat was immaculately clean and in perfect order. We will definitely be using you again if thats OK with you." John Parkes and friends, enjoyed a long weekend on Calico Moon in September 2017.
"Thanks again for a good weekend. and a well maintained yacht." Simon Arowsmith chartered Calico Moon in September 2017
"Wilson, we appreciated the taut and seamanlike nature of the boat - a pleasant contrast to some of the more flabby boats on the Solent!" Phil Lapage on behalf of the Shresbury School chartered Calico Moon for a Duke of Edinbugh's award trip to Skye and back, in July 2016.
"We really enjoyed the week and the boat was excellent. We will definitely come back in future." Peter Millican and friends chartered Calico Moon in May 2016.
"We chartered our boat – Spectre – a 42 foot Sun Odyssey boat, from Sailaway in Largs for a week. The boat was in excellent working order. Everything was well maintained, and we were impressed by the quality of the sails and especially the spinnaker. She sailed well and the week was fast, and was easy to handle. The booking, handover, and chartering process was very easy and professional. The team were most responsive and on-hand when needed. All in all we had a great time, and would gladly charter Spectre again." Peter Groegl from Austria – Chartered June 2017
Once again, it was a real pleasure for the whole crew to sail in Scotland and I hope we will come again. Pierre-Henri Jouneau Chartered July 2017
Our sailing week in Scotland is already history. We had a good time with no big trouble on our journey from Oban to Largs...Thank you for the good and uncomplicated service. Martin Zund Chartered August 2017
"Thanks for the charter - Deja Vue is a fantastic boat. We had her up at 9 knots in all sorts of weather -a fantastic few days. We'll be in touch again" Alan Brooke, September 2017.
"Deja Vue is a splendid boat: she handles well and her accommodation is very comfortable." Colin Hinton and friends, June 2017.
"Hi Wilson, hope you have had a great trip back.... I just wanted to say thank you again for making this great trip possible at rather short notice: We thoroughly enjoyed sailing Deja Vue from Largs to Dunstaffnage, she is a great boat in perfect condition – and more than that, she is really well equipped in terms of details like jackstays, sufficient lines and fenders, an efficient set of electronics, a well-marked anchor-chain etc…. – Likewise, the service has been great, we felt very welcome, and the handover was professional and smooth. We hope to return soon for another charter!" Holger Emmel and friends enjoyed their week's cruise on Deja Vue in April 2017.
"Deja Vue is a great home from home, and comfortably sleeps 8 in her four cabins. She sails well in a reasonable wind, and we often achieved 8.5 knots with ease, compared to 7 under motor. The bowthruster is a helpful assistant - in the Scottish Islands Peaks Race you have to pick up your runners from the dinghy without using the engine, and the bowthruster kept her head-to-wind for me. In our week, we visited Rathlin Island the first evening, then Loch Tarbet on Jura, through the Corryvrekan to Oban, then Salen on Mull, Craighouse on Jura, Rathlin once again, Arran, Troon, and back to Largs. We plan to use her again." Patrick Erdal and team chartered her in May 2017.
"...what I will remind from DEJA VUE is that it is a great fast going yacht to sail, with everything working perfectly!" Our French client Eric van Kalmthout and his young family returned to charter Deja Vue in July 2016, having chartered one of our smaller yachts the previous year.
"Déjà Vue sailed particularly well, especially to windward. The facilities on board were presented in high order, the stove worked particularly well and we found the galley equipment catered for the eight of us on board comprehensively. Impressive yacht and would look to charter her again next year subject to availability / crew numbers …etc." Rico Cornwell and friends are also repeat Sailaway customers, who thoroughly enjoyed their week on Deja Vue in August 2016.
"We throughly enjoyed sailing Disk Drive and will be back next September." Peter Hudson chartered September 2017
"Thanks again. We had a great charter experience and you were very easy to communicate with." Gary Bishop from Vancouver, BC, Canada chartered May 2017
Well, we can't guarantee the weather but otherwise we'll do our very best for you. 2018 will be our seventh season as an independent charter operator and here are few of the unsolicited references we've received over the first few years:
Some might think organising for a group of 17 to charter two yachts for three days might be a logistical nightmare....not with Sailaway and Seascape Scotland! Both Andrew and Wilson were extremely accomodating both with dates and boats when both were altering by the day. The flexibility and friendly advice helped no end in selecting the perfect duo of boats and suggested itinerary. Both Calico Moon and Aurora were excellent vessels packed full of features which made the trip a joy and a pleasure. With both boats benefiting from self furling mains and genoas the boats couldn't be easier to sail. The spacious interior of Calico Moon provided the perfect boat for a crew of 10 and the slightly smaller Aurora a crew of 7. Both boats have brilliant swim platforms which makes launching the tenders a breeze, especially so with the handy tender lashing points on the stern of Aurora.
All aspects of the charter service we received were top notch, the booking, the handovers, hiring of oilies and the boats. We were met with a warm welcome and encouragement wherever we went which puts Largs at the top of the list for our next yachting adventure. We spent the journey home dreaming of our next charter!
Thanks Andrew and Wilson!
James Read and stag party chartered April 2017
This is to thank you once again for a fantastic week on Aurora. The six of us had a great time on a very comfortable boat that was easy to sail. I was particularly impressed with the level of equipment and especially in the galley - as good as I have ever encountered. This was greatly appreciated as the crew included a couple of keen cooks. I would unhesitatingly recommend you to others looking for a similar week's cruising. Jeremy Cross – Chartered May 2017
"We wanted to write to say how impressed we are with the service we received from your company through the whole process of the Charter.
From the moment of booking the boat where you showed flexibility on dates from your brochure to paying deposits and fees to the relaxed but very professional hand over, the clean and well set up boat, the hand back were all a cut above the normal Charter company. We have been chartering for 25 years plus in many different places and we all agreed this is the best area with the best boats . It just a shame it has taken 25 years to discover it, where else can you go with 25 plus knots of wind sailing at 9 knots with the sea state being slight with beautiful scenery and lots of harbours with wifi. We will be booking next year." (... and they have, for 2016!)
We did indeed have a fab time, already looking at next sailing adventures.
Many thanks for everything." Jo Fearnhead-Wymbs – July 2017
"We chartered Zavaria for a one week cruise around the Clyde, and from start to finish the experience was brilliant. The hand over with Alan was very thorough and friendly and Seascape made sure the whole crew were comfortable with the boat before we left. The boat was clean, well maintained and had absolutely everything you could want for an enjoyable sailing holiday. I have no hesitation in recommending Seascape and Zavaria, a great company and a great boat."
Thanks again for letting us use your boat and hopefully we'll see you again in the future. Thanks Mike Ashworth – June 2017
Another good time in Scotland, At my third trip with this well equipped boat we attempted to round the Mull Of Kintyre, but the westerly winds brought us to Campbeltown and later to the many scenic places in Firth Of Clyde like Loch Ranza Bay, the Kyles Of Bute, or Tarbert Harbour.
Assisted by the competent team of Sailaway and impressed by the highlights of the tour (such like meeting friends from Germany in Rothesay) we mastered this trip and will come back to this fantastic sailing scenery as soon as possible.
Jochen Nüchter chartererd in July 2017
