GETTING HERE

By road: Largs is well connected being only 40 minutes from the centre of Glasgow and 30 minutes from the national motorway network. When travelling up from England the M6, M74, M8 and A737 provide easy access to Largs. The completion in 2011 of the M74/M8 link allows you to avoid the sometimes congested Glasgow city centre – whether you are approaching from the south or heading there.

By rail: The hourly train service to Glasgow takes 55 minutes. Trains leave Largs (usually..) at 10 minutes before each hour. From Glasgow there are excellent rail links to the rest of Britain.

By air: Glasgow Airport is 30 miles (35 minutes by car) away, as is Prestwick with its low cost flights to London and Europe. We will be happy to arrange for you and your crew to be picked up from and/or returned to the airport.

Journey Breaks: For those travelling south via the M6, one option is the Herdwick Inn at Penruddock approximately 10 minutes off junction 40 on the A66 close to Penrith in the Lake District.  This is approximately 2 ½ hours south of Largs and has been mentioned as an ideal ‘off the motorway’ lunch break to extend your holiday just a little. They also have a number of en-suite rooms. Telephone: 01768 483 007. www.herdwickinn.com

ACCESS TO THE MARINA

On approach to Largs Yacht Haven berth holders’ car park, you can identify yourself at the barrier as being a charterer with Sailaway Scotland if you'd like to gain access. In our experience, the public parking area immediately before that barrier, just outside the Largs Sailing Club, is equally secure and convenient. The pontoon access gate has a unique security code number, which is changed weekly. You can obtain this number from us when we meet you, failing which at the Largs Marina reception office. The excellent shoreside toilet/shower facilities use the same coded access numbers. Trolleys are provided (released by £1 coin) for transporting your equipment the short distance from the car/Taxi to the boat.

ON YOUR ARRIVAL

At the start of your charter, we will meet you in the upstairs lounge of Largs Sailing Club, which in summer is open and licensed 7 days per week, serving teas, coffees, lunches and evening meals. Phone us on 0845 528 1011 and we'll promptly come to meet you there, run through any outstanding paperwork with you, then take you down to the boat for your handover briefing.

MARINA FACILITIES

Excellent showers and a launderette are available within the Largs Yacht Haven complex. The shower facility also incorporates toilets and wash hand basins with razor points and hairdryers.

Other facilities include a very well stocked chandlery; an excellent dive shop; a spa/beauty salon; and the main base of Scotsail Training; Scotts restaurant and the Bosun's Table cafe/deli), The licensed Largs Sailing Club offers teas, coffees, lunches and evening meals from its lounge which has excellent sea views.

LARGS

If you find that you have a few hours to spare whether before setting off or on your return, we can recommend a visit to the town, which is less than a mile from Largs Yacht Haven, either by road or a very pleasant stroll along the seaside path and promenade. In the town you’ll find a range of interesting shops, cafés and restaurants including our personal favourite bar and restaurant, “Lounge”; and Indian restaurant, the “Koh-I-Noor” (each on Largs Main Street, either side of the local RBS branch…)

PROVISIONING

In addition to the many independent shops in Largs town centre, there is a Morrisons Superstore in Largs, on the left of the first roundabout as you enter the town from the south.  The M8 and A737 out of Glasgow are also flanked by many large food retailers including Marks and Spencer and Asda. Tesco, Sainsbury and others will also deliver to the Marina should you choose to order in advance.
